ECONOSTO Oy’s technical sales representatives, Olli-Veikko Räihä and Petri Koivusilta, participated in training at Armstrong International’s EMEA Learning Center in Herstal, Belgium, at the end of last year.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen expertise in steam as an industrial medium and to gain practical insight into steam valves and their operation as part of complete systems.
Armstrong International – A global expert in steam and energy solutions
The training was organized by Armstrong International – Intelligent Solutions in Steam, Air, and Hot Water. The company provides intelligent solutions for steam, condensate, and hot water systems, as well as heat transfer, with the goal of improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions in industrial processes.
The training held at the Herstal center is organized annually for Armstrong’s distributors and representatives from around the world. This year’s group of 18 participants included representatives from countries such as South Africa, the United Kingdom, Greece, and Saudi Arabia. The international group provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences from different markets, making the training especially valuable.

A practical review of the fundamentals
Most of ECONOSTO’s sales team have previously participated in Armstrong training programs, and this time it was Olli-Veikko Räihä’s and Petri Koivusilta’s turn to update and deepen their expertise. The three-day program focused on the fundamentals of steam.
Olli-Veikko explains that the training covered the behaviour and properties of steam in a significantly broader and more practical manner than before:
“The training helped significantly to visualize the overall picture. Previously, steam as a medium was familiar to us mainly at a basic level.”

The demonstration wall brings theory to life
The training facilities at Armstrong made a strong impression on both participants.
“The training facilities were excellent, and the implementation was very illustrative. The atmosphere was professional yet relaxed,” Petri describes.
The most memorable part of the training was Armstrong’s well-known demonstration wall, which illustrates the behaviour of steam in practice. The demonstration wall made it possible to observe step by step how steam moves, how it reacts, and what kinds of challenges or issues may arise within the process.
Olli-Veikko considers this to be the most valuable part of the training:
“The demonstration wall illustrated steam behaviour exceptionally well and helped visualise phenomena that are not normally visible in everyday practice.”

Training benefits reflected directly in customer work
The training provided valuable additional understanding that will bring concrete benefits to sales work and customer service. According to Olli-Veikko and Petri, the training above all increased confidence and understanding of how steam functions as a medium in different operating environments.
Petri notes that the training helped to identify the most common steam-related challenges and their solution approaches in an entirely new way. Olli-Veikko highlights the importance of understanding the whole: “The training clearly demonstrated how steam behaves in different situations and how potential problems may occur.”
Overall, the training trip was compact, practical and highly instructive – and, above all, it strengthened expertise that provides direct value to ECONOSTO’s customers.
