ECONOSTO Oy continues to support the operations of Rescue Helicopter Aslak in Lapland this year. We have been contributing to this valuable rescue service since 2024 and are committed to continuing our cooperation in promoting safety in Northern Finland.
Rescue Helicopter Aslak operates as a contractual unit of the Lapland Rescue Department and carries out more than 400 missions annually. Aslak serves a region characterized by long distances, demanding conditions and limited accessibility. The terrain, extreme cold and darkness of Lapland place specific requirements on rescue operations. In many situations, the helicopter is the fastest – and sometimes the only – way to reach those in need of assistance.
Aslak’s missions include search and rescue operations as well as firefighting missions throughout the Lapland region. An alert may occur in the middle of the night, in a remote wilderness area or at a traffic accident far from the nearest hospital. Each mission is different, but one common factor remains: operational readiness must be maintained every day, all year round.
Impressive work in Northern Finland
In Northern Finland, the demand for rescue missions increases particularly during peak tourism seasons. During Christmas, winter holidays, Easter and the summer travel season, the region sees a significant influx of domestic and international visitors. Snowmobiling, skiing, hiking and other outdoor activities increase the risk of accidents and search operations, while vast geographical areas can make access by ground units challenging.
The rapid response capability of a rescue helicopter is therefore especially critical. Operational readiness does not fluctuate according to the season; it must be maintained continuously throughout the year.
Due to its extensive area of operation, the rescue helicopter is an integral part of Northern Finland’s safety network. Close cooperation with authorities and continuous readiness ensure that assistance can be dispatched quickly even in demanding conditions.
Support provided by companies enables operational readiness
Helicopter emergency medical and rescue services are not self-evident. Maintaining operations requires significant resources, including aircraft, equipment, training, maintenance and continuous readiness. The contribution of companies, municipalities and private supporters plays an essential role in enabling these operations.
